Our Interview with Kimberly
What was life like before becoming a client?: I have always exercised but then I had 2 kids that completely changed my life. I was run down, tired and feeling extremely unfit. We took the boys to Disney and I noticed I was hiding in all the pictures and that's when it hit me I needed to get back into a fitness routine and start feeling comfortable again.
At the time you enrolled, were you already exercising? What was your previous background in fitness?: I was not at the time. It had been about 8 years since I had done any type of consistent exercise . I used to exercise all the time and then I found out I was pregnant and had a very tough pregnancy which is where I started to get off track.
What originally prompted you to seek out HVF/ZONED?: I wanted to start some type of fitness program and I knew I would need more motivation than just joining a box gym with all the responsibility being with me to figure out how to start. Zoned had structured classes that made fitness something I didn't need to think about.
What was your goal when you originally signed up?: Originally I wanted to lose weight and have more energy. It was very difficult having 2 young boys and working full time so I wanted to get healthy
Why was this goal important?: Being a parent of two boys that are very athletic, it was important for me to set a good example of a healthy lifestyle. I wanted them to see that fitness was important to me and it should be to them as well
How long had you had this goal?: My whole life. I was so far off track I felt lost with where to start.
What were the top 1-2 things that held you back from achieving your goal?: Time and motivation
What had you tried to get to your goal before?: Since time was always such a struggle, I tried walking, home DVD's ect.
Were you more driven to solve a problem or achieve a goal?: Initially it was to solve a problem because I needed to lose weight to get started.
How did you originally hear about HVF/ZONED?: My son was playing basketball at the local rec center and I saw a flyer for a bootcamp class at 6:00am. It seemed like a good place to slowly start something
How were you feeling about your goal at that time you enrolled?: I was completely overwhelmed because it seemed so big. I wanted to lose 40lbs and it seemed like it would be impossible.
What have you liked best about working with HVF/ZONED?: The ability to work at my own pace and not be judged. In the beginning I was slower because I wasn't fit and I always felt that was OK to go at whatever pace was most comfortable with. There have also been times I was recovering form different injuries and Keith has always pushed me hard enough to get a great workout but always made sure it was being done in a safe environment
What challenges have you overcome and struggled with that kept you from progressing faster with your goals?: I would say a few injuries have slowed me down and currently my job. I travel quite a bit for work which certainly presents an issue with being able to be consistent.
How did you overcome them?: Working directly with Keith for advice. Whether it was working on modifications while I was healing or getting ideas of what to do while I am traveling to stay on track. He always has given me great advice and keeps me motivated
What are you most proud of achieving since you started training?: I would definitely say how strong I have become. Initially it was all about losing weight but now its about how proud I feel that I can lift pretty heavy weight.
Now that you achieved, or are well on your way to achieving, your goal has your view of yourself changed?: Yes it definitely has. I used to have much lower self esteem because I was not comfortable in my own skin. Now when I look at myself, knowing I was able to lose 40lbs even with set backs, I feel incredibly confident and that reflects all aspects of my life.
How do you feel about your future?: I feel incredibly positive. I have learned that life is not always perfect and we all have set backs. If you remain committed to yourself and your goals you can achieve anything. I used to only be focused on losing weight and now I am more focused on being healthy and strong.
What else is different about your life since beginning your program?: Fitness is a main focus for my whole family now. My boys actually tell their friends that their mom lifts weights and can "out plank most people". I feel like the mindset I have helped create in our family will have a positive impact on them forever.
Where would you be if you hadn’t started your program at HVF/ZONED?: Its hard to even think about that because I have been with zoned for so long. I think I would have continued to struggle and would not have the confidence I have today.
What would you say to anyone else who might be dealing with similar problems you faced before working with HVF/ZONED?: Just try it! You will be in a better place for doing so. It doesn't matter what your goals are because Zoned will help you achieve them in a place that makes you feel proud of yourself everyday.
